An elegant soliflore vase in flamed stoneware from Bouffioulx, signed by the Belgian ceramist Edgard Aubry (1880-1943) , dating from the 1920s, the Art Deco period. The piece has a beautiful slender shape, with a rounded body and a long flared neck, typical of the sober and refined aesthetic of the time.
The flamed decoration in shades of brown, green, blue, and purple illustrates the mastery of Bouffioulx enamels, renowned for their fusion and textural effects. Made of salt-glazed stoneware using a high-fire technique : at 1300°C, salt is added to the kiln, producing sodium vapors that fuse with the clay's silicates to create a characteristic translucent glaze.
Edgard Aubry is recognized as an exceptional potter, mentioned in the book Au Gré du Grès – De l'Art Nouveau à l'Art Déco (pp. 33-35). A member of the Union des Artistes Modernes, he distinguished himself through his decorative Art Deco ceramics and his research into innovative firing techniques. He was also a painter and illustrator, exhibiting notably at the Royal Museum of Mariemont in Belgium and the Musée des Arts Décoratifs in Paris.
