Glazed ceramic vase made by Foucard Jourdan , a ceramics manufacturer active in Vallauris, around 1950 .
This vase adopts an elegant baluster shape with a slightly flared neck, characteristic of post-war Vallauris production.
The decoration, painted with slip and underglaze, features a stylized animal motif , evoking birds with free and dynamic forms. The design combines calligraphic black lines, graphic punctuation, and turquoise highlights on a cream background with pronounced crackling , typical of Vallauris enamels from the 1950s.
The Foucard Jourdan pottery factory is part of a long tradition of pottery making in Vallauris , the Foucard family having been established there since the 17th century. Founded by François Foucard at the end of the 19th century, the workshop was later continued by his son Joseph Foucard and his wife Jeanne Rémond. The factory remained active throughout much of the 20th century and is particularly notable for operating the last large wood-fired kiln in Vallauris , which was decommissioned in 1983.
The vase is signed under the base “Foucard Jourdan Vallauris”.
