Bronze and silver Arts & Crafts vase, Heintz Art Metal Shop – circa 1910

A patinated bronze vase adorned with sterling silver (925) inlays, made by the Heintz Art Metal Shop around 1910. This vase is a prime example of the American Arts & Crafts movement, with its clean lines and stylized floral decoration. The relief decoration was applied using the exclusive Heintz patent (patent no. 2712).

The pieces from the Heintz factory feature an alloy of dark bronze and decorative silver motifs, with no visible welds.

Otto Heintz , born into a family of jewelers in Buffalo in 1875, took over a small business in 1902, which he renamed Art Crafts Shop , before founding the Heintz Art Metal Shop in 1906. He developed a patented technique for applying sterling silver to bronze without soldering (final patent granted in 1912). Production covered a wide range of decorative and utilitarian objects – vases, candelabras, desk accessories, lamps, and jewelry – all renowned for their originality, elegance, and exceptional quality .
