Art Nouveau vase in glazed ceramic made by Charles Maes , in Sint-Amandsberg, near Ghent, Belgium, between 1900 and 1909.
This vase has a slender, organically shaped form, enhanced by two sinuous handles integrated into the neck, typical of the Art Nouveau style. The deep blue-green glaze, with its natural variations and drips, gives the piece a beautiful sculptural presence.

Charles Maes (1847–1924) began his production around 1885 with simple utilitarian objects. From 1899, in a new workshop, he developed an artistic output that included decorative ceramics, sculptures, tiles, and architectural elements. Pieces from his workshop generally bore a crushed pelican as a trademark; the letters "B & H" correspond to the initials of the workshop assistants. After 1900, he was assisted by his sons, Jules and Auguste. Following his retirement in 1909, the workshop continued its exclusively artistic production for about ten years before finally ceasing operations in 1920, having received awards at numerous exhibitions.

A beautiful Art Nouveau piece, part of the revival of Belgian ceramics at the turn of the 20th century.

Very good overall condition for a piece from this period. Signs of use, slight irregularities in the enamel and visible firing marks, typical of early artisanal production.
