Art Nouveau vase circa 1900 signed Émile Balon, Blois , in lusterware with polychrome decoration. Its curved silhouette, typical of the 1900 aesthetic, is enhanced with an emerald green decoration on an ochre background, punctuated with pink iridescence characteristic of the metallic luster techniques developed at that time in French workshops.
In 1886, Émile Balon succeeded master potter Ulysse Besnard, founder of the Blois factory in 1862. Trained as an apprentice and then decorator in the workshop on the Quai des Imberts, Balon took over the factory at the age of 36 and continued the local tradition while developing a more personal style. He gradually simplified the original mark—first "E. Balon Seur" and then, on his more modern pieces or those with metallic sheen, "E. Balon Blois," a signature found on this vase. His production is distinguished by the finesse of its painted decorations, inherited from the Renaissance and the decorative repertoire of the Château de Blois, while also embracing contemporary Art Nouveau forms and effects.
The inside of the vase is glazed in a deep red, contrasting with the iridescent exterior. The base bears the signature E. Balon / Blois.
