This superb example of the Art Nouveau style features an idealized female figure in relief, holding a dove, a symbol of peace and purity. The scene is rendered in white on a pale green background, in the tradition of Wedgwood jasperware, an emblematic technique developed in the 18th century and revisited here with a 1900s aesthetic.
The delicate carving and subtle contrast of materials evoke the influence of Symbolist aesthetics and the Arts & Crafts movement. The sinuous handles enhance the organic and refined character of this piece.
