Very good overall condition. Regular crazing of the enamel, inherent to the technique and the period. Slight signs of wear and minor age-related marks are visible, but there are no chips or cracks. See photos for details.

Important crackled glazed ceramic vase made by the Boch Frères Keramis factory after a model by Charles Catteau , around 1930, a key period of Belgian Art Deco.

This vase features a floral design with dynamic and balanced lines, typical of the decorative vocabulary developed by Charles Catteau. The flowers, with their almost geometric petals, are rendered in a vibrant palette of blues, greens, and pinks, standing out against a cream background with a crackled glaze, lending a beautiful depth to the whole. The neck and base are highlighted with a glossy cobalt blue glaze, accentuating the elegant and perfectly proportioned silhouette of the piece.

The decorative composition, structured and expressive, fully illustrates the transition between the Art Nouveau heritage and the modernist aesthetic of Art Deco. The background bears the printed mark "KERAMIS – Made in Belgium" as well as a design number, attesting to production at the La Louvière factory during the interwar period.

About the creator
Artistic director of Boch Frères Keramis from 1906, Charles Catteau is one of the major figures of European Art Deco. He instilled in the factory an innovative style, based on geometric stylization, chromatic richness and great decorative freedom, making Keramis an international benchmark in the 1920s–1930s.

A high-quality decorative vase, ideal for an Art Deco collection, refined interior decoration, or for a lover of 20th-century European ceramics.
