An Art Deco vase from the 1930s designed by Eva Zeisel for Schramberg Majolica (Germany), featuring a geometric "partridge eye" pattern. The circular motifs are glazed in cobalt blue and ochre on an almond green background, outlined by a deep black grid typical of Schramberg production.
The slightly shouldered, architectural silhouette reflects the modernist influences of Zeisel, then a young designer within the manufacture before his international career.
Schramberg Majolica , founded in the 19th century and reinvented in 1912 under the direction of the Meyer brothers, became one of the most innovative German manufacturers thanks to its colorful, hand-painted decorations and artistic collaborations. Among the most notable was that of Eva Zeisel , who, in just 18 months (1928–1930), created nearly 200 designs and transformed the company's aesthetic by introducing Bauhaus and Art Deco influences.
Born in Hungary, Zeisel went on to develop an exceptional international career — exhibited at MoMA, the Metropolitan Museum of Art and the British Museum — and remained active until the age of 105.
Note: the vase is numbered at the base "XIII 2607 3", bearing the characteristic inscriptions of Schramberg Majolica productions, a marking typical of models from the 1930s attesting to its attribution to the factory.
