Superb fine porcelain vase from the Carl Tielsch & Co. (CT Altwasser) factory, dating from the early 20th century (circa 1900). This vase is decorated with a magnificent hand-painted scene, inspired by the work of the Spanish painter Bartolomé Esteban Murillo , "Children Eating Grapes and Melon" (1645).
The vivid depiction of two children sharing a picnic, accompanied by a dog, is richly detailed and superbly executed against a gradient background of deep teal. The painterly effect evokes the style of classical canvases from the Spanish Golden Age. The reverse of the vase is unpainted, highlighting the purity of the porcelain and the elegant form of the piece.
