Hand-thrown stoneware cup bearing the mark of the workshop of Pierre Digan (1941-2016) , a major figure in the revival of stoneware in La Borne . A ceramist and sculptor, Digan settled in the village in 1960 after training with the ceramist Michel Lucotte and working in several workshops in the South of France and in Vallauris.
He quickly became one of the most dynamic artisans in the area: utilitarian production in pyrite stoneware, architectural pieces, participation in the Ateliers d'Art de France exhibitions, teaching, and welcoming many students who would become important French ceramists in the following decades.
His Digan Grès workshop will leave a lasting mark on this period of creative effervescence.
The cup features a flamed brown-black glaze , a speckled green-grey glazed interior, and bears the workshop's mark . An authentic piece of La Borne stoneware, typical of the 1970s.
