A rare 1930s stoneware smoking set with gilt glaze, signed Léon Pointu , a prominent figure in Saint-Amand-en-Puisaye ceramics. Its green and gold reticulated decoration, typical of the Art Deco period, demonstrates a fine mastery of metallic glazes experimented with in Saint-Amand at the beginning of the 20th century.
Léon Pointu (1879–1942), trained in the family workshop and influenced by the school of Jean Carriès, developed a personal style from the 1920s onward, marked by the Japonisme aesthetic of stoneware. In the 1930s, under the technical influence of Lucien Brisdoux—a specialist in metallic oxides—he adopted the ocellated and reticulated decorations and the drips of gold or platinum, which became emblematic of his Art Deco production. Demanding and rigorous, he carefully selected his glazes and raw materials, perpetuating the Pointu family's expertise.
This decorative set, dated and signed, perfectly exemplifies this modern artistic approach. Ideal for collectors of French ceramics, Art Deco enthusiasts, or for display in a contemporary interior.
