A glazed stoneware pitcher made by Jean Maubrou in the 1950s, in the heart of the Saint-Amand-en-Puisaye ceramic center. This piece, with its generous and balanced shape, features a delicately pinched spout and a solid handle, well integrated into the silhouette.
The glaze displays beautiful shades of celadon green to seafoam green, enlivened by brown-ochre drips and natural variations resulting from the firing process, characteristic of Maubrou's work. The contrast between the stoneware and the glaze effects underscores an approach that is both traditional and deeply attuned to post-war modernity.
Jean Maubrou (1900–1965), a potter based in Saint-Amand-en-Puisaye, belongs to the lineage of the great ceramists of the Puisaye region. His work on copper-red stoneware, which turns green and turquoise, is particularly sought after. After an interruption due to the Second World War, his workshop experienced a revival in the 1950s, a period to which this pitcher can be attributed. An authentic and representative piece of mid-20th-century French ceramics.
