The glaze displays beautiful shades of celadon green to seafoam green, enlivened by brown-ochre drips and natural variations resulting from the firing process, characteristic of Maubrou's work. Jean Maubrou (1900–1965), a potter based in Saint-Amand-en-Puisaye, belongs to the lineage of the great ceramists of the Puisaye region. His work on copper-red stoneware, which turns green and turquoise, is particularly sought after. After an interruption due to the Second World War, his workshop experienced a revival in the 1950s, a period to which this pitcher can be attributed.
