Excellent overall condition, without cracks or chips. Slight natural irregularities from firing, typical of handcrafted work.

Glazed stoneware pitcher made by British potter William 'Bill' Marshall (1923–2007) , a figure of the English Studio Pottery movement.
Originally from Saint Ives, Marshall was the first true apprentice at Leach Pottery, joining as a teenager to learn pottery from David and Bernard Leach . Later becoming foreman and Bernard Leach's right-hand man , he created many of the workshop's iconic pieces before founding his own studio in Lelant , Cornwall, in 1977.

His work, influenced by Bernard Leach and Shoji Hamada , also draws on nature and the landscapes of Cornwall : the nuances of his enamels evoke stone, lichen and the changing tones of the Penwith moors.
This 1980s pitcher perfectly illustrates its style: harmonious ovoid shape , sculptural handle, pinched spout and fluid enameling with discreet drips.
Piece signed under the base with the monogram of William Marshall .
