A crackle-glazed ceramic pitcher signed Henry Simon , made in the 1960s . This post-war French ceramic is characterized by nuanced turquoise and brown glazing , with a dense and visually striking crackle effect typical of his work. Its slender silhouette, pinched spout, and large handle clearly demonstrate the artist's sculptural approach.
About Henry Simon (1910-1987)
Born in 1910, Henry Simon studied at the Beaux-Arts in Nantes and then in Paris before returning to the Vendée region, where he devoted himself to painting and, later, to ceramics. Settling in Saint-Hilaire-de-Riez , he developed his work in his studio, named Les Rimajures , which has now been transformed into a museum.
The city acquired the site in 2015 and renovated the "bourrine", now enlarged to accommodate exhibitions, artist residences, a garden and a literary resource center dedicated to art.
