Small glazed stoneware pitcher made by the ceramist Robert Héraud (1924–2010) in La Borne in the 1980s.
With its curved and organic shape, it features a deep glaze in shades of brown, ochre, and black, typical of the Berry pottery tradition. The metallic reflections and glaze drips testify to a fine mastery of the fire and a subtle aesthetic pursuit.
Painter and ceramicist Robert Héraud settled in Sancerre in 1962, not far from La Borne, a renowned center of French stoneware. There, he developed a unique body of work inspired by nature and materials, in tandem with his wife Annie Maume , from a long line of potters in Puisaye. Together, they explored a multitude of forms—vases, jewelry, bas-reliefs—in a style that was both rustic and poetic.
Signed Héraud under the base.
