Pair of Indian silver-plated articulated fish , dating from the late 19th century . These finely crafted objects were traditionally used as spice or condiment containers , and sometimes also as ritual or curiosity objects in colonial India.

Each fish is composed of articulated segments , boasting a high degree of movement and remarkable realism. The details are particularly well-crafted: hammered scales , sculpted fins, a dorsal chain , eyes and mouths highlighted with red pigments , as well as geometric patterns inlaid on the tails.
The opening is located at the top, revealing a golden interior, typical of old containers intended for spices.

These pieces are part of the tradition of Attar-dan or zoomorphic spice boxes , prized by collectors of Indian art , ethnographic objects and curiosities of the 19th century.
