A rare commemorative bronze medal without inscription , issued by the Monnaie de Paris in 1955 , depicting Jean Rostand (1894-1977) , French writer, moralist, biologist, historian of science, and academician. The work was engraved by Lucien Lafaye (1896-1975) , a renowned medalist.

• Obverse : Relief portrait of Jean Rostand with his name inscribed.

• Reverse : On a composition evoking the culmination of evolution, several human silhouettes are superimposed, symbolizing the mutations studied by Rostand. To the right, a frog, his favorite experimental animal.

• Edge : smooth, BRONZE horn hallmark.
