Enamelled ceramic trinket dish, made by the French ceramist Henri-Georges Dupetit (1903-1989).
This piece, with its free and irregular shapes, features a deep black glaze enhanced with yellow crackles , reminiscent of natural textures and post-war modernist experiments.
Though little documented in the world of French ceramics, Henri-Georges Dupetit remains one of those little-known masters whose work deserves to be rediscovered. Initially a decorator, painter, and marquetry artist, he collaborated in prestigious workshops connected to the world of Ruhlmann , before turning resolutely to ceramics in the early 1940s.
His work, marked by a strong naturalist influence , blends organic forms, vibrant textures, and surface variations reminiscent of the plant or mineral world. Until the end of his life, he pursued this exploration of matter and light, even decorating his own Parisian apartment with ceramic wall panels and landscape paintings.
This bowl fully embodies this approach: a fusion between formal rigor and organic spontaneity , between modernist design and artisanal sensitivity.
