Decorative cup from the Napoleon III period (Second Empire, second half of the 19th century) , made of gilt bronze richly decorated with polychrome champlevé enamels and mounted on a body of veined onyx with superb pink and orange hues.
This cup rests on a finely chased gilt-bronze foot and features two sculpted handles with foliate decoration, typical of 19th-century decorative vocabulary. The champlevé enamel friezes alternate geometric and floral motifs, recalling the Neo-Renaissance influence and the enthusiasm for luxurious decorative arts during the Second Empire.
A high-quality decorative object, this bowl is in keeping with the tradition of Parisian bronze ornamentation from the Napoleon III era , blending fine materials, ornamental craftsmanship, and a taste for historical eclecticism. It will find its place naturally on a console table, mantelpiece, or in a display case.
