A modernist brooch in the shape of a cross, made of gilt bronze by Arthus-Bertrand , based on a design attributed to Paule Ingrand , a leading figure in 20th-century French design and decorative arts. Dating from the 1960s , this piece features full volumes and softened lines, in the post-war modernist style.
Founded in 1803 , Arthus-Bertrand is historically recognized as the official supplier of decorations, orders, and insignia of the French State, notably for the Legion of Honour. Alongside this institutional production, in the 20th century it developed a remarkable line of designer jewelry, prized by collectors.
Paule Ingrand (1910-1997) , a graduate of the École Nationale Supérieure des Arts Décoratifs, initially collaborated with Max Ingrand before pursuing an independent career, notably in Belgium. A graphic designer, painter, and jewelry designer, she created brooches and pendants with a powerful formal language, blending Art Deco heritage and modernism, often produced by major Parisian houses such as Arthus-Bertrand.
The reverse of the brooch is signed “Arthus-Bertrand Paris” . A beautiful, graphic and symbolic piece.
