Enamelled crystal box/bonbonnière made around 1910 by Adolf Beckert , a leading figure in Bohemian glassmaking and future director of the Steinschönau/Kamenický Šenov Glass School (1918–1926). A brilliant decorator and engraver, Beckert developed a highly personal style combining black and gold enamelling (“Schwarzlot”) , fine engraving and symmetrical compositions inspired by Art Nouveau, often produced in collaboration with local workshops such as that of Friedrich Pietsch .
Before joining Steinschönau, Beckert was also artistic director of Loetz (1909–1911), where he created unique vases with acid overlays and Japonisme-inspired designs, innovating European glassmaking techniques. His influence was decisive in the development of acid-etching, engraving, and enameling processes in Bohemia.
This candy dish perfectly illustrates its decorative language: swirling arabesques, stylized floral motifs, cold-applied gold highlights, and cut crystal creating a delicate optical effect. A collector's item from the renowned glassmaking center of Steinschönau.
