A superb little egg-shaped rosary holder, dating from the second half of the 19th century, the Napoleon III era. This antique religious object is entirely hand-carved from corozo, also known as vegetable ivory, which comes from the fruit of the ivory palm (tagua). It opens into two screwed halves to hold a miniature rosary or other small devotional items.
Each surface is meticulously decorated with circular geometric patterns and interlacing designs, revealing the exquisite craftsmanship of the period. This type of egg carton, discreet and refined, was often carried on one's person or in a pocket for daily prayer.
