Superb fine porcelain vase from the factory Carl Tielsch & Co. (CT Altwasser) , dating from the beginning of the 20th century (circa 1900). This vase is decorated with a magnificent hand-painted scene, inspired by the work of the Spanish painter Bartolomé Esteban Murillo , "Children eating grapes and melon" (1645).
The vivid depiction of two children sharing a country meal, accompanied by a dog, is richly detailed and superbly executed against a gradient background of deep duck blue. The painterly effect mimics the style of classic canvases from the Spanish Golden Age. The reverse of the vase is blank, highlighting the purity of the porcelain and the elegant shape of the piece.
