This decorative platter, created by Rolf Grenov for the renowned Swedish ironworks company Ystad Metall in the 1960s, features a frieze of the signs of the Zodiac, inspired by the astrological trend of the time. The various ornamental motifs are finely carved and realistic.
Rolf Grenov (1924-2019) was a Danish artist and industrial designer, renowned for his realistic and abstract paintings. He spent two formative years in Marseille, France, where he painted landscapes and deepened his understanding of art.
Returning to Denmark, he began a career in industrial design, working at Bernadotte & Bjorn before founding his own design company.
Rolf Grenov also worked for Georg Jensen, where he contributed significantly to the company's reputation as a leading manufacturer of high-quality, designer silverware.
