Superb ceramic pitcher made in the 1950s by Marianne Starck (1931-2007), then artistic director of the Danish manufacturer Michael Andersen & Søn. This model belongs to the famous "Tribal" series, recognizable by its matte black engobe and stylized geometric patterns evoking rock art or African traditions.
The modernist, asymmetrical shape of this piece makes it an iconic example of post-war Scandinavian design, combining sculptural lines with graphic decor. The body is decorated with stylized silhouettes of goats or ibexes in black relief on a speckled ivory background, with an integrated handle.
The base is marked with the manufacturer's triangle logo, the model number "5551" and a letter stamp.
