Jacques Pouchain (1925-2015) left Paris and abandoned his training as an architect in the 1950s for the South of France to devote himself to art and his pottery workshop in Dieulefit.
He produced both highly personal works and more commercial pieces, both revealing a modern approach to pottery.
J. Pouchain was particularly known for his minimalist and functional style, which drew inspiration from simple geometric shapes and industrial materials. He won several awards for his designs, including the 1988 Paris Design Prize.
Pouchain ceramics enjoy international renown and have been sold at several major auction houses.
