Large vintage brooch in 925 silver and black onyx signed YAPAIA - Mexican brutalist design, 1970s
Exceptional vintage signed brooch YAPAIA , made in Mexico , probably at Taxco , a mecca of artisanal goldsmithing. Crafted in 925 sterling silver and decorated with a triangular black onyx , this unique piece presents a brutalist and modernist design very sculptural.
The whole composition evokes a stylized character , almost totemic: the upper part is reminiscent of a headdressed, the central geometric shapes recall a bust or crossed arms, and the black onyx forms a triangular base that evokes legs or a pedestal. This type of abstract anthropomorphic representation is typical of Mexican design of the 1970s and 1980s, influenced by both indigenous art and international modernism.
