Corrado Martens (1894-1970), known as Dino, studied at the Academy of Fine Arts in Venice. He moved to Murano in the mid-1920s.
He became artistic director of Aureliano Toso in 1939, until 1963, creating glassworks of great interest for the open use of traditional Venetian techniques.
Endowed with a great sensitivity for glass and its possibilities, he shaped it according to his bold design intuitions, sometimes "visionary" for the first half of the 20th century.
He remained for many years at the Aureliano Toso art glassworks, producing many remarkable works using traditional Venetian techniques but producing original effects, "bold" asymmetrical forms - the designs often being marked by their obvious difficulty of execution.
This ashtray is a testament to the artist's colorful style, called "Tutti Frutti" due to the wide range of colors used and the different techniques applied.
